Developing a Positive School Culture

This masterclass aims to develop an understanding of the components of school culture and provide practical strategies that can be used with both adults and children to enhance relationships and increase the sense of an inclusive community and promote belonging for all stakeholders.

A positive school culture is vital to improving the wellbeing and performance of staff and pupils alike. This research-backed masterclass examines key components of school culture and explores mechanisms which can make manifest positive school values in identifiable behaviours. Focusing on the importance of relationships and exploring the potential tension between consistency and adaption, this masterclass will provide an opportunity for school leaders to self-reflect and plan for action going forward.

We consider the role of wellbeing, inclusivity and belonging in post-Covid schooling and examine different responses to difficulties that schools can face. The potential for a character based, self-regulation curriculum and a collective focus on kindness will be explored as methods to productively build positive school culture.
