This training equips educators with the knowledge and strategies to help boys become active allies in preventing gendered harassing harmful norms, and promoting gender equality. Through reflective discussions, practical activities and whole-school approaches, participants will learn how to foster environments where respect, empathy, and positive masculinity thrive.
Gendered harassment isn’t just an issue for girls- it’s a cultural issue that affects the entire school community. This thought provoking training is designed to help educators move beyond reactive approaches and focus on prevention by empowering boys to become active allies.
Rather than framing boys solely as potential perpetrators or passive bystanders, this course explores how they can play a vital role in challenging harmful behaviours, promoting respective and fostering positive peer cultures.
Participants will first unpack the roots of gendered harassment, exploring how it manifests itself both overtly and subtly through ‘banter’, ‘micro aggressions’ and online behaviour. The course will examine the social pressures boys face that often prevent them from speaking out and how traditional notions of masculinity can reinforce silence or complicity.
As well as reflection, the course also encourages action, providing practical strategies to support boys in recognising sexism, intervening safely, and becoming champions of gender equality. Educators will engage with real-life scenarios as well as curriculum-based approaches to embed these lessons in everyday practice.
Finally, the course looks at developing whole-school strategies to create an environment where allyship is the norm, not the exception. This course is essential for any school committed to tackling gendered harassment at its roots.
