A recent report by EPI suggested that student numbers will fall by 818,000 across England by 2032-33. This masterclass explores the impacts of falling pupil rolls, how we can manage this and build resilience for the future.
Schools and trusts have always been subject to falling and rising pupil numbers and the impacts this has upon planning for the future.
It is even more important than ever that schools anticipate fluctuations in numbers in their strategic planning. The national funding formula (NFF) Is now almost entirely predicated upon pupil numbers, with very few fixed elements. Schools and trusts need to take a 3–5-year view, anticipating their budget position and the school structures (curriculum, staffing) they need to have in place to deliver good outcomes for our young people within the resources available.
This masterclass will explore the national and local context to pupil number trends, the impacts these will have on curriculum delivery and how we can plan for variations and develop strategies for resilience.
