This half-day course will cover the 3 key taxes that those who operate in academy finance need to be aware of – VAT, Payroll and Corporation Tax
VAT – the basic rules and principles of VAT, what triggers VAT registration and why it is relevant, a look at partial exemption calculations plus some simple VAT checks to be aware of.
Corporation Tax – basic understanding on the threshold for paying tax, how you can mitigate your exposure plus the pros and cons of this and the key objective of registering your academy as a charity for tax including the benefits it can bring
Payroll – simple checks to perform when working in a finance team and why you need to be aware of P11Ds

FACILITATOR
Phil has 15 years’ experience in the academies sector as an auditor, CFO and governor. From 2012 to 2022 Phil was an auditor in a top 30 firm of accountants supporting finance teams as the sector developed and matured. He also was finance governor in a local school which went through academy conversion. He now acts as a part-time CFO whilst providing internal audit and training services to trusts.
